A Fabbrica Europa production

This group offers an original approach to African sounds, combined with sounds from the European tradition. Badamj Ensemble, the acronym of the names of this new group, is a innovative fusion of Italian-African sounds through the work on the voice of the Senegalese griot Badara Seck, artistic director of the project, in collaboration with the singing of the young Tuscan soprano Aurora Loffredo, the tablas of Agostino Bicocchi, whose training ranges from Tuscany to India, the kora of Madya Diabate (Senegal) and the percussions of Daouda Diabate (Burkina Faso), both belonging to the Diabate "dynasty", one of the great griot families.

Badara Seck, artistic director
Native of Senegal, Badara Seck is descended from a family of Griots, the holders of art and the word in Africa. Still young, but with great potential and an extraordinary voice, he began to travel the world to share his voice and stories, then the songs and music he composed by himself.
First in Canada, then in the countries of Western Africa, Switzerland, the rest of Europe and Italy, including sojourns in his native country, he continued to fulfil his role as musician and Griot enriching himself constantly with his international experience.
He participated in numerous international festival; notably he was the only person deemed capable of substituting the grand voice of Miriam Makeba, the solist of the famous Messa Luba. He also participated in Africa Poesia in 2000 in Rome and Florence, alongwith, among others, the poet, musician, writer and icon of African culture Francis Bebey. He was also one of the principle invitees of the multilingual event Hypertext-Ulisse, supported by the European-Mediterranean program of the European Community.
With his group PENC, he has held numerous concerts in Italy, Europe and Africa. He accompanies the musician Massimo Ranieri in his recorded music and lives performances.
Badara Seck is part of a new generation of Griots that have travelled the world, but who don't intend to loose their identity or their active role in the transformation of Africa and Africans. His songs and musical projects are an extraordinary testimony to his dedication.
He is the creator of the Rung Pung project for Fabbrica Europa, which aspires to synthesize his existence, ideas and extraordinary artistic and professional experience. Badara invited African artist living in Italy, with great talent, but few opportunities to express it, to join the project.
