Lo Sguardo Sequenziale/Off Shore is a project by the Catalan director Andrés Morte Terés that aims to investigate the meaning and expression of the theatrical gesture when it encounters and is compared with the gesture recorded and reproduced on video.

Off Shore develops a unique approach thanks to the participation of a team of artists with cinematographic experience. 

Movement work in the theatre space is measured against a cinematic language of filmed close-ups and medium shots, with the aim of exploring an unusual proximity between the spectating gaze and the movement of the actor.

The introduction of non-theatrical texts, the development of scenes performed live and reproduced in real time or with a delay and the simultaneous use of several video cameras,  all permit the actors to interact with two different means of artistic communication. They investigate potential fusions between the two artistic languages and gain a profound awareness of their potential.

The project is a journey of research in which theatrical conventions are put into play in order to emphasise a different perception of reality. The actors and the public become aware of new ways of reading the relationship between the filmed image and the physicality of the theatre. 

Andés Morte is a theatre and film director, scriptwriter and writer.  He was one of the founders and artistic co-ordinators of the theatre group La Fura del Baus. He was director of  Teatro Municipal Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona. He founded the Instituto de Investigacion de las Artes Escanicas Contemporaneas y Artes Multimedia in Barcelona. He has worked with Robert Redford's Sundance Festival and is a member of the Commission of the Festivales de Iberoamerica.  He is one of the founders of the Festival Fabbrica Europa in Florence. In Spain he works with the Departamento de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya and with ESCAC (Escuela Superior de Cinematografia de Cataluna). He leads workshops and seminars across the world.

Allo scopo di esplorare un'insolita vicinanza dello sguardo dello spettatore al gesto e al movimento dell'attore ci si misura con il linguaggio cinematografico (ricorrendo all'uso di telecamere, con primi piani, mezze figure e piani americani), con il lavoro sui movimenti nello spazio propri del teatro.

L'utilizzo di testi non teatrali, lo sviluppo di scene recitate dal vivo e di scene riprodotte in tempo reale o in differita, l'utilizzo di più telecamere in contemporanea alle azioni teatrali, permettono agli attori di confrontarsi con due mezzi di comunicazione artistica diversi, di comprenderne a fondo i valori e di indagare nuove forme di contaminazione tra i due linguaggi.
Il progetto si pone come un percorso di ricerca in cui le convenzioni del teatro si mettono fortemente in gioco, al fine di sollecitare una diversa percezione della realtà e sensibilizzare attori e pubblico verso nuove modalità di lettura della relazione tra immagine filmata e fisicità del teatro.
